Botanical & Ecological research in the Andes of Peru
Botanical & Ecological research in the Andes of Peru.
This year I a accomplish 5 years of continuous research over the Andean flora from the department of Moquegua in Peru. This region with scarse biological information has been my objective in terms of analyzing and describing the parameters of the landscape from the floristic and faunal point of view.
Around 5 publications have been made regarding studies on Botany, Taxonomy, description of new species, and lately with a detailed info on the phytosociology of the vegetation.
The vegetation of the Andes of Moquegua can be counted by around 500 plant species between Liches, Bryophyta, Algae, Pteridophyta, Monocots and Dicots. In particular concising 14 towns and their geographical sorrounding landscape between an altitudinal gradient of 3400 and 4700 meters above sea level. Several endemisms can be found and I have prepared a detailed catalogue on the floristic overview of the last 5 years. It is of urgent demand the need of more biological studies in the region; if there is anyone interested on more information about the region in terms of Biology and future theme studies please contact me: dmtharpua@hotmail.com
